Ceramic Rollers: The Strategic Axis that Sustains the Excellence of Your Production

In the ceramics industry, product quality is not limited to the final finish. True excellence is built inside the kiln, where a discreet yet fundamental component determines the success of production: the ceramic roller.

Responsible for supporting and conveying the pieces throughout the entire firing process, ceramic rollers play a critical role in process stability, edge alignment, and energy efficiency. For a sector that operates with tight margins, high precision, and increasingly shorter cycles, choosing the right roller is not a mere technical detail — it is a strategic decision for competitiveness.

Material Engineering that Withstands Extremes

The combination of corundum (aluminum oxide, α-Al₂O₃) and mullite (aluminum silicate, Al₆Si₂O₁₃) creates a material with excellent mechanical properties such as hardness and flexural strength. Its low thermal expansion and high resistance to thermal shock allow the rollers to operate in environments above 1,100 °C, enduring abrupt temperature variations and heavy loads over thousands of cycles without losing their shape or function.

The elastic modulus of Perfil Térmico’s Ceramic Rollers is approximately 120 GPa, enabling the transport of heavy parts without warping or deformation. Moreover, their low water absorption protects the material from internal cracking caused by evaporation inside the rollers — a crucial safeguard in wet rework environments and furnace entry zones.

Adaptable Performance and Greater Efficiency

Perfil Térmico’s ceramic rollers are specifically designed to minimize replacement needs, maintaining consistent performance across various product types — from tiles to metallic parts.

Their chemical resistance also stands out. Operating in aggressive atmospheres with enamel vapors and alkaline agents, the formulation of Perfil Térmico’s rollers is specially developed to preserve the material’s microstructure, ensuring an extended service life.

Tailored Solutions for Each Furnace Zone

Within a ceramic furnace, each zone demands a specific type of roller:

  • Cold Zones: at the inlet and cooling sections, where thermal gradients are lower, rollers must combine good thermal performance with structural flexibility to absorb small variations without compromising piece alignment.

  • Firing Zone: here, temperatures are high, and rollers operate under intense thermal and mechanical loads. Structural rigidity, dimensional stability, and flexural strength are key to ensuring the roller maintains its form despite continuous weight from the products.

To prevent residue buildup, which can cause dirt rings and affect both product quality and roller lifespan, Perfil Térmico also offers longitudinally grooved ceramic rollers. These grooves help channel particles away from the contact surface, ensuring smooth and precise conveyance — even in hot-stamping processes with USIBOR steels.

Though often overlooked, ceramic rollers are an essential pillar for producing tiles, porcelain slabs, hot-pressed components, and many other products. Investing in high-performance rollers is a strategic decision to enhance quality, productivity, and the overall competitiveness of your operation.
